KILLER CAR: A policeman inspects the car which killed six persons, including two children, at Carter Road in Mumbai on Sunday.
Mumbai: Six persons, including two children were killed in their sleep and 14 injured when they were run over on Sunday here by a car carrying late night party revellers apparently drunk. The incident happened at around 3:45 a.m. when the car mowed down six construction workers from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka sleeping on the pavement of Carter Road in suburban Bandra, police said. The dead were three women, a man, a five-year-old girl and an eight-year-old boy. The dead were identified as Chinnama Loda (30), Mani Mamma Tinnma (25), Savita Timanna (5), Laxmimanna Raju Malla (25), Ajamma Basappa (35), Devu Basappa (8). Fourteen people were injured, of whom six men and two women were admitted to Bhabha Hospital in Bandra while the remaining six were discharged after first aid.

The police arrested all the six persons in the car, including Aliston Pereira (21) who was in the driver's seat. While Pereira was booked under Section 304 of IPC (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), others were booked under the Bombay Prohibition Act as all of them were drunk, police said. Additional Commissioner of Police Bipin Bihari said the occupants of the car, including a girl, were returning from a late night party. All of them were in the age group of 18-20, he added.

The Bandra metropolitan magistrate's court remanded Pereira to police custody till November 14 but released the other five, travelling by the car, Craig Pereira, Kenroy Jacob, Curt Kurt D' Lima, Marvin Pinto and Ronela Santamay, on a bail of Rs. 5,000 each. Deputy Commissioner of Police V.K. Chaubey said, a bottle of liquor was found inside the car. - PTI
