Rampur (U.P.): The Centre is considering the dismissal of the Uttar Pradesh Government, particularly in the wake of allegations of massive rigging during recent local bodies elections, Union Minister of State for Home Sriprakash Jaiswal has said.

"The proposal is under serious consideration. The Centre cannot behave like a hapless spectator and will exercise its constitutional rights," he told reporters here on Saturday evening.

"Almost all Opposition parties have demanded the dismissal of the Uttar Pradesh Government after the alleged massive rigging in recent civic polls," he said.

"Jail bharo" protest

State Congress chief Salman Khurshid said the party would launch a massive "jail bharo" protest on November 20. The party would lay siege to the Assembly on November 27 to protest rigging and booth capturing in the recent polls, he said.

Vora's charge

Senior Congress leader and AICC treasurer Motilal Vora on Sunday attacked the Mulayam Government for "the blatant misuse of official machinery, massive rigging, booth capturing and intimidation of voters by Samajwadi Party activists" during the local bodies polls. Had the elections were held in an impartial, free and fair manner, the performance of the Congress would have been far better, he said in Lucknow. — PTI
