Chennai: The Aeronautical Society of India conducted the first national Aerospace Olympiad 2006 to create awareness about space programmes. 18 schools participated in the Olympiad that was conducted in two phases. The regional phase was where each branch of the society invited schools to send a 40-page report on the topic, "Aryabhatta to Chandrayaan - I, India's Space Journey". SRDF Vivekananda Vidyalaya qualified for the second phase of the competition in Chandigarh. The selected teams had to prepare another report on the topic, `Launching a Satellite in to Moon's Orbit: Present and Future Propulsion Systems.' The team members were to participate in awareness, intelligence and aerospace competitions, in addition to sketching and painting on space related topics and a cultural programme for five minutes. The students of SRDF excelled in the awareness quiz, were placed second in paper presentation and were awarded the certificate of excellence for overall performance.
