SIRCILLA (Karimnagar Dt.): Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy said that they had left the Telangana statehood issue to the UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and exuded confidence that she would evolve consensus on the issue at the earliest. Launching the party campaign for the byelection to the Karimnagar parliamentary constituency with pomp and gaiety here on Sunday, he said that the Government was taking all necessary steps for the all-round development of backward Telangana region, which was neglected over the years, he added. Stressing on the development of Telangana region, he said: "We will transform Telangana into Koti ratanala veena'' amid applause from the audience. He said that they would develop Telangana on a par with the Godavari delta region. Listing the various irrigation projects being executed in Karimnagar district, he said that the Government was committed to provide irrigation sources to the entire district by utilizing the surplus Godavari waters. Dr. Reddy said that they would lift the Godavari waters to the Upper Manair Dam and stabilize the existing ayacut at a cost of Rs 93 crores within two years.
