School delegation from Germany

NEW DELHI: A delegation comprising 10 students and the principal of German School Theodor-Heuss-Realschule is visiting India under the Indo-German School Project (IGSP) in association with the R.K. Puram branch of Delhi Public School.

The IGEP Foundation is organising the trip with the help of Shayama Chona, Principal DPS R.K. Puram and Bernard Trömel-Kühnert, who looks after the IGEP activities in Germany.

This is the second German school delegation to India and the DPS students have also visited Germany in the exchange programme. The delegation would be here from November 5 to 15. DPS R.K. Puram would host a cultural evening and reception to honour the German guests on Monday.

Unit for melting coins unearthed

NEW DELHI: Six people who allegedly melted coins and supplied the metal to gold smith for use in manufacture of artificial ornaments were arrested by the Samaipur Badli police of North-West Delhi on Saturday. The police claim to have seized a large number of coins of different denominations, metal slabs and other raw materials worth about Rs. 25 lakhs.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West Delhi) Manish Kumar Agarwal said the Samaipur Badli police received a tip-off that some persons were melting coins and converting them into metal slabs to sell them at higher rates. Subsequently, a police team raided the unit and arrested all the accused.

Man booked

NEW DELHI: A young man who allegedly duped more than 240 people on the pretext of giving them job at the India International Trade Fair-2006 being organised at Pragati Maidan has been arrested at Shakarpur in East Delhi.

On Saturday, the police received a complaint from one Pawan Verma, a resident of Uttam Nagar in West Delhi, alleging that a person had cheated him of Rs. 500 on the pretext of arranging a job for him at the trade fair that begins from November 14. The accused, Jasbir Singh, had got an advertisement published in a newspaper offering jobs at the trade fair.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi) Ajay Chaudhary said after the complainant saw the advertisement, he and his wife Manjeet Verma met Jasbir at his Laxmi Nagar office in East Delhi. Jasbir took their interview and then claimed that they had been selected for the jobs. He charged Rs. 500 per person for his service and asked the two to collect their identity cards on November 10. But, when they went there to receive the identity cards that day, they were shocked to find that the office had been vacated.

Two arrested

NEW DELHI: Two young men allegedly involved in cases of robbery have been arrested at Inderpuri by the Special Staff of the South-West Delhi police. The police claim to have recovered a motorcycle and some other stolen articles from their possession.

A team led by Inspector Rajpal Dabas arrested the two accused, Tarun Kumar and Vicky Shaharyar, when they were riding the stolen motorcycle.
