Institute inks pact with UNCTAD

M. Soundariya Preetha

It will take up research activities, organise seminars and workshops for the industry

COIMBATORE: The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Institute of Textile Management has signed an agreement with the Textiles Committee for the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) project on "trade related capacity building".

The Textiles Committee is the tier I partner for the programme.

According to Institute director C. Anandan, the institute will take up research in textiles and organise seminars and workshops for the industry.

It will also benefit from its interaction with the industry through such events, he added.

Mr. Anandan said the institute conducted three regular courses - Postgraduate Diploma in Textile Management (two years), PG Diploma in Apparel Management (one year), Post Diploma in Home Textile Management (one year). It had about 100 students in these courses and all students in the last two years had been placed through campus recruitment. He said companies such as Madura Garments and Raymond offered project and placement opportunities. Firms with an international presence also selected students from the institute.

The highlight of the course was its focus on textiles and 30 per cent of the curriculum was on textiles, he said. "The industry now is doing pretty well and they need more management candidates."

The institute also organises two or three-day programmes based on the requirement of individual industries.
