Death sentence stayed

The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the operation of a Kerala High Court judgment confirming the death sentence awarded to M.A. Antony of Aluva in Ernakulam district.
A Bench, comprising Justices Arijit Pasayat and Lokeshwar Singh Panta, stayed the sentence on a special leave petition filed by Antony, challenging the September 18 judgment. It also issued notice to the Kerala Government.
The prosecution case was Antony murdered six persons of a family on January 6, 2001. A CBI special court slapped the death sentence, and on appeal the High Court confirmed it.
