Rangasamy rushes to New Delhi

Special Correspondent

Official sources claim there is no political significance

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy left for Delhi on Sunday night and sources close to him here told The Hindu that he would meet the Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil to discuss certain matters concerning the Union Territory.

Asked if it was a scheduled visit or if the Chief Minister had left for the capital on an invitation from the Union Home Ministry, the source pointed out it was only a routine visit. He would seek clearance of certain proposals by the Centre and there is no political significance in his visit to Delhi, the source claimed.

The PCC leader P. Shanmugham had already visited Delhi and held discussions last week with the AICC top-brass. An informed source in the PCC said on Monday that both the Chief Minister and PCC leader would again visit Delhi after November 20 and get the nod of the high command for certain proposals including the names of incumbents of the three nominated MLAs in addition to the names for the various statutory bodies.

The tenure of previous chairmen of the undertakings and public sector enterprises here had come to an end in September.

Mr. Rangasamy would return to Puducherry on Tuesday to participate in functions to celebrate the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru here, official sources said.
