"Autonomy will not affect JIPMER"

Special Correspondent

It will emerge as a nationally renowned centre: S. Ramadoss

Puducherry: The founder of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), S. Ramadoss, has said that the upgradation of the Jawaharlal Institute of Post-graduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) into an autonomous institution would only ensure that the institute emerged as most advanced and a nationally renowned centre soon.

This potential of JIPMER had not been utilised so far and hence autonomy would definitely take place in the larger interest of the institution and and qualitative improvement in health care services rendered by it, he added. Addressing a meeting organised by Puducherry unit of the PMK at Periyar Thidal here on Sunday to felicitate the PMK Parliamentary Party leader M Ramadoss for his successful efforts to convert the name of Pondicherry into Puducherry through a statutory measure recently.

The PMK founder leader said that he had done a lot for the development of the Union Territory.

Booklets

The MP had also brought out booklets highlighting his achievements as representative of people in Lok Sabha. The movement for conversion of name should be propagated among the youth and the students.

Mr. S. Ramadoss said that those, who did not understand the quantum of benefits that JIPMER would gain through autonomous status, were trying to cause confusion among the people.

He said that nothing would happen to the workers and staff in their working conditions.

Mr. Ramadoss MP also spoke. Among those who felicitated the MP included convener of PMK in Puducherry Selvarasu, deputy convenor N.G. Panneerselvam and a host of PMK functionaries.
