dated November 14, 1956: Trapped in the lift

Prime Minister Ali Sastroamidjojo of Indonesia and Mr. Nehru were trapped for a few minutes in the Raj Bhavan lift, it was reported in Calcutta on November 13. The incident happened when the two Prime Ministers were returning to the Raj Bhavan after the AICC session at Beliaghata was over. Miss Padmaja Naidu, Governor of West Bengal, who was travelling with them in the same lift was jocularly narrating an incident in which the State Chief Minister was trapped in his Secretariat lift when to their surprise their own lift came to a halt midway. Raj Bhavan technicians were immediately sent for and they set the lift right.
