Introduce express trains At present there are four express trains and a passenger train from Mayiladuthurai to Chennai Tambaram on a daily basis. Recently, the Southern Railway announced the cancellation of the above trains with effect from December 1, due to the broad gauge conversion work. It will surely affect thousands of commuters in that area. It will be better if the Southern Railway introduces an express train from Mayiladuthurai to Chennai via Kumbakonam, Thanjavur and Tiruchi once in the morning and in the evening. The introduction of new trains with adequate number of rakes will help thousands of commuters.

Snake menace
The snake population has grown out of bounds, anybody strolling along the paddy and sugarcane fields in our area can notice these reptiles lying on the bounds of the fields alarming passers-by.
I understand there is a ban on catching snakes.
I request the authorities to take immediate steps to save the lives of poor farmers from snakes.

No bus shelter
In Thanjavur town, Kodimarathu Moolai is an important and crowded bus stop.
In the absence of a shelter people waiting for buses suffer many hardships.
I request the State Minister and the Central Minister from Thanjavur to take steps to provide a pucca shelter from their local area development fund.

Stray dogs problem
The number of stray dogs in Thanjavur town has so increased in recent times that people here find it difficult to move freely.
The condition of residents of LIC Colony on Medical College Road is still worse as these dogs are biting unwary people, especially children. I request the Municipal authorities to take urgent steps to end this problem.
Vengarai S. Raman,

Urban, rural confusion
No day passes without power cut for a minimum of 2 hours in Chettimandapam area causing much hardship to residents.
As a result, two-wheeler and petty thefts have become a common occurrence in the area.
The explanation offered by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) staff is that the locality is a rural area is and power cut is imminent, which is not convincing.
This is not justifiable, as the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) treats the area as urban and levies tax on its customers with abnormal rent.
Hence, the status of the area should be clarified by both the TNEB and the BSNL.
