American HSS retains trophy

Madurai: American College Higher Secondary School, Madurai retained the Jayaraj Chelladurai Trophy defeating St. Britto Higher Secondary School, Madurai 35-22 in a low-scoring final of the 15th annual State-level inter-school basketball tournament organised by MNU Jayaraj Nadar HSS at Nagamalai near Madurai on Sunday night.

American College took a 7-point (10-3) lead in the first quarter and maintained the lead till the end of the third quarter. The American boys enhanced the lead in the fourth quarter to 13 points (35-22) to clinch the issue.

The results: American College HSS, Madurai 35 bt St. Britto's HSS 22.

Parthiban wins

V. Parthiban of Pudukottai Chess Academy claimed the boys under-25 title in the State-level chess tournament for boys and girls at Madurai on Sunday.
