NEW DELHI: Yuvraj Singh remains in contention for a place in the World Cup side. This was the conclusion made by the Board following a test conducted here by the Board's doctor Anant Joshi. The test was conducted at Yuvraj's home in Gurgaon. Yuvraj has suffered a knee injury on the eve of the Champions Trophy match against Australia at Mohali last month. The cruciate ligament injury had raised apprehensions regarding Yuvraj's ability to recover in time for the World Cup after being sidelined for the forthcoming tour of South Africa. In a press release, the Board secretary Niranjan Shah said, "Following discussions Mr. John Gloster had with Dr. Anant Joshi and other associated parties we feel that a management plan will give Yuvraj the best chance of being available for the World Cup and the subsequent series to follow." Mr. Shah disclosed, "The plan is to follow a conservative rehab path (i.e. non-surgical) initially with constant ongoing reassessment. After approximately eight weeks (post injury point) a thorough clinical and practical/dynamic appraisal of the overall stability of the knee will be undertaken and at this point, depending upon the findings, we would either pursue the conservative management or opt for surgical intervention. "We would anticipate that at this point Yuvraj will have returned to running activities and as a result the best indications of the overall stability of the knee can be revealed," Mr. Shah said.
