Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Monday ruled that the colleges under the Kerala University were bound to conduct the college union elections strictly in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court. Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair while passing an interim order observed that the university should not take action against the colleges for violating the university order to conduct elections in accordance the presidential form of elections. The interim order was passed on a writ petition filed by the Council of Principals of Colleges of Kerala. The court felt that the university had not taken into account the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court because no detailed guidelines were passed before the university issued the order. Counsel for the petitioner Baby Isaac Illickal contended that the university issued the order without adhering to the guidelines of the Supreme Court.
Chairperson's petition
Palakkad municipality chairperson V. Devayani filed a petition against the no-confidence motion moved against the vice-chairperson S.R. Balasubramanyam. She said that her signature given for some other purpose had been misused by the movers of the no-confidence motion.
College admission
Justice C.N. Ramachandran Nair has directed the Government to file a counter-affidavit in response to a writ petition seeking a declaration that the admission made by seven self-financing medical colleges to the management quota was null and void. The petition, filed by Ansal and another student who had applied for a management seats, said that penal action should be taken against the colleges in view of the findings of the Admission Supervisory Committee that the admission made by these colleges were not transparent.
Bail denied
Justice V. Ramakumar dismissed a petition filed by Bechu Rehman, main accused in the case relating to the assault on former Sabarimala tantri Kandararu Mohanaru. The Judge said that having regard to the nature of the offence, the short duration of judicial custody, suffering of the victim and the present stage of investigation, the accused was not entitled for bail. The accused had surrendered before the investigating officer on October 3.
