Gulbarga: A free diabetes check-up camp will be organised at the Dhanvantari Hospital and Rameshchandra Lahoti Medical Research Centre in Gulbarga on Tuesday. MLA Chandrashekar Patil Revoor will inaugurate it. Winner of P.S. Shankar Vaidyashree Award and diabetes expert Muralidhar Rao, Gururaj Kulkarni, K.T. Paladi, and Veeresh Salgar would be present at the camp, according to a press release. Of the 200 million diabetics in the world, 35 million are in India. An equal number have pre-diabetes condition and were likely to develop the condition in the next few years. The Indian phenotype (personality) is vulnerable to get diabetes below the age of 30. They are likely to suffer from heart attack and high blood pressure at around 45 years of age. Diabetes was expected to become a huge burden on the Government and the non-governmental organisations in the coming decades. The aim of such a check-up camp was to raise awareness of disadvantaged communities and vulnerable groups, according to the release by Dr. Rao.
