HYDERABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Monday paid tributes to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the eve of his 117th birth anniversary. Acquittal hailed

HYDERABAD: Former Home Minister and Telugu Desam Party Polit Bureau member T. Devender Goud expressed happiness at the acquittal of former Minister P. Ramasubba Reddy by the High Court in the Shadnagar double murder case on Monday. It may be recalled that a criminal court in Hyderabad found Mr. Reddy guilty of the murder of two Congress workers in Shadnagar bus stand in 1990. - Staff Reporter

Man held for trying to sell sons

Sangareddy: Balasantala Katal a beggar was arrested by the Dubbaka police on Monday for trying to sell his two sons. Katal was found near Habshipur of Dubbaka mandal offering his elder son Peda Satyam (3) for Rs. 5000 and younger son China Satyam (1) for Rs 2000. Katal said he was not able to take care of his sons after his wife left him. - Staff Reporter

STU candidate named

HYDERABAD: Gubbala Satyanarayana will be the candidate of the Andhra Pradesh State Teachers' Union (STU) for the teachers' constituency from Godavari districts in the council elections. The union would support in the graduates constituencies the candidature of Gorki (Nalgonda, Khammam, Warangal), V.V. HIV-positive prisoner

HYDERABAD: A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday directed the State Government to come forward to give effect to the proposal of shifting an HIV-positive woman prisoner from Rajahmundry Central Jail to a home run by an NGO. - Legal Correspondent

Two youths drowned

NIZAMABAD: Two youths -- Shaik Imran (18) and Sayyad Nazeeb (19) --of Armoor town were drowned in a tank at Vannel (B) village on Monday. According to Sub-Inspector D. Nageswar Rao the youths and their parents had come to the town to visit a dargah located near the tank. They entered the tank for a bath when the accident occurred. - Staff Reporter

Posters set ablaze

KURNOOL: Activists of the DYFI torched posters of a movie in the city on Monday. The DYFI activists said obscene posters and movies were misleading youth. Besides, the posters were an embarrassment to women who passed by. They asked the Collector to take steps for removal of such posters. - Special Correspondent

`Polavaram will affect 1002 families'

BHUBANESWAR : Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said that the Andhra Pradesh Government's Polavaram project will affect 10 villages having a total of 1,002 families. The project would lead to submergence of 2,119.30 hectares, Mr. Patnaik said in the State Assembly. He said his Government would take up the issue with the Centre. Staff Reporter
