State Bar council hails Centre's move

Bangalore: The Karnataka State Bar Council has said that the Union Cabinet's approval of the introduction of the Judges (Inquiry) Bill 2006 to make Supreme Court and High Court judges accountable would bring transparency in the functioning of the judiciary and further enhance its prestige in the eyes of the public. The council felt it was feasible to include prominent jurists as members of the proposed judicial council. — Staff Reporter

Children's gram sabhas

Bangalore: Children's gram sabhas are being visualised merely as annual events for awareness generation in panchayats rather than as a serious intervention that respects children as citizens and holders of rights, the Concerned for Working Children (CWC) has said.

While welcoming the State Government's initiative, CWC said that urban children had been totally left out in the process, and the children involved were viewed as audience and not as active participants.

NIFT industry convention

Bangalore: The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bangalore, held an industry convention here last weekend for garment export houses, design firms, buying houses, garment manufacturers, retailers, brands and accessory dealers.

Professor and chairperson of NIFT D.K. Batra made a presentation on industry linkage, and centre coordinator A.K. Khare explained the courses offered by the institute.
