NEW DELHI: The Indian Professional Boxing Association (IPBA) was launched here on Monday with the body promising big money for the Indian boxers even after retirement from amateur bouts. "The newly formed IPBA is aiming to provide Indian boxers a prolonged career in the sport and also a chance to earn good money," said Raj Kumar Sangwan, twice Asian gold medallist, and now the Secretary-General of the IPBA. The IPBA is also planning to provide Indian boxers a platform to launch their careers on to the world stage by getting key professional boxers to perform here. "We have tentatively scheduled our first event in January next year and hope to get a few well-known boxers," said Sangwan. The IPBA is currently in the process of finalising Asian and World body affiliation, something that is compulsory before it stages any event.
