HOLDING A DIALOGUE: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda listens to representatives of State panchayat bodies from Ambala during `Samvad' at his residence in Chandigarh on Monday.
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Monday took exception to his opponents who have been criticising the setting up of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the State. Addressing a meeting of chairmen, vice-chairmen and members of zila parishads and panchayat samitis and sarpanches of Ambala district at his residence, Mr. Hooda asked his critics to either suggest an alternative to check the problem of unemployment or desist from misleading the people on the SEZ issue which he said was in the larger interest of the State and the country as it would help in eradicating unemployment. He said that during their "reign" of 10 years his opponents had "not done any good for the State". He charged that they were unable to "digest his success". He urged the elected representatives of the Panchayati Raj institutions not to bother about the "misinformation campaign" but work as a team and ensure judicious use of funds. The Panchayats could now undertake projects of up to Rs. 3 lakhs and funds were being sent to them directly whereas during the tenure of the previous Government, the Chief Minister used to undertake works that were meant for Panchayats. He regretted that Ambala had not got its due share of development all these years. While assuring overall development of Ambala at an accelerated pace, he said an SEZ would also be set up there. He announced that "Indira Gandhi Payjal Yojna" would be launched from Nahauni village in Ambala district on November 19 under which free connections of drinking water would be given to families belonging to Scheduled Castes. They would also be given free water storage tank of 200-litres capacity equipped with a tap. For general category consumers, it had been decided to waive connection fees for one year.
