CHENNAI: Activists of the fishermen wing of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam staged a demonstration on Monday to condemn the alleged failure of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government in rescuing missing fishermen.

Led by secretary of the fishermen's wing D. Jayakumar, the activists, who participated in the demonstration in front of the Collector's office, raised slogans flaying the Government's "indifference" towards the problems of fishermen.

Mr. Jayakumar accused the Government of not taking action to rescue four of the 11 fishermen of Kasimedu in Chennai, who were still missing. The fishermen had set out to sea on October 22, he said, adding that six of them had returned while the body of another had been washed ashore.

The DMK Government failed to act quickly in conducting the search and rescue operation, he said.
