Essay contest on moral policing
Staff Reporter
CHENNAI:
Nandini Voice For the Deprived, a Chennai-based non-governmental organisation, has announced an essay competition for women college students on the subject `Moral Policing - Is it Necessary?'.
The competition was conceived in the context of several States conducting raids on nightclubs.
"While a section of the media is very critical of moral policing, terming it as an intrusion into the liberty of individuals, it is necessary to know what young women think about the subject," N.S. Venkataraman, trustee of the organisation, said.
The essay should be 1,500 words long and can be written in English, Hindu or Tamil.
The essay should reach Nandini Voice For the Deprived, M 60/1, 4th Cross Street, Besant Nagar, Chennai - 600 090, on or before December 31.
Five of the best essays will be selected to receive cash awards. The essay can also be mailed to nsvenkat@md4.vsnl.net.in. Call 24916037 or 24961346 or visit www.nandinivoice.org for details.
