Gravedigger kills wife, arrested

CHENNAI : Police arrested a gravedigger on charges of killing his wife on Sunday night.

Police said Ramesh (38), a gravedigger at the Tirunindravoor burial ground, had killed his wife when he was inebriated, and fled with his two children.

Drunkard

Officers said that Ramesh, who lived in Avadi, was married 10 years ago and had a history of coming home drunk and beating up his wife.

Police hive filed a case of murder against Ramesh, who has been remanded to judicial custody.

Merchant waylaid

A gang stoned lorries and trucks in R K Nagar police station limits after their drivers refused to pay `mamool' to them, and robbed a merchant of Rs 25,000 cash on Sunday night, police said.

Four of the gang members have been arrested and remanded to custody.

Police are looking for the remaining accused.
