Tie-up on toll free numbers

More than 80 million subscribers of the two operators will benefit

CHENNAI:
Major telecom service providers Reliance Communications and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited have entered into an agreement allowing each other's subscribers to access the 1-800 toll free numbers provided by them.
Announcing this, a press release from Reliance Communications said more than 80 million subscribers of the two operators and the enterprises opting for 1-800 numbers stood to benefit. Reliance Communications had also tied up with HFCL in Punjab and was in talks with other major operators for such network-independent access to the 1-800 services.
The toll free number market in India, where the caller is not charged for the service, is currently at a nascent stage.
It is, however, expected to grow exponentially over the next few quarters.
"Such a model of toll free access from all networks has been a much awaited concept by all enterprises and consumers," the release said.
