Coimbatore: The Federation of those affected by the delay in completion of Ondipudur railway overbridge has decided to defer its plan to stage a rail roko at Irugur on November 20. The meeting of the federation was held on November 12 at Chintamanipudur under the chairmanship of its president, B.K. Saminathan. The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament, Coimbatore, K. Subbarayan, representatives of various voluntary organisations, non-Governmental organisations, and also trade and industrial bodies. Officer on Special Duty and Chief Engineer, Construction, Bola Singh, represented the Southern Railway at the meeting. A letter sent to the MP by the General Manager, Southern Railway, Thomas Varghese, was read out at the meeting. The letter attributed the delay to the contractual failures and gave an assurance that the ongoing railway overbridge work on Tiruchi Road at Ondipudur would be completed by January 15, 2007. It also mentioned that the other one at Ukkadam along Valankulam would be completed by the third week of February 2007. Hence, following the assurance, it was decided to temporarily defer the proposed agitation for November 20. The federation decided that if the Ondipudur bridge works were not completed in accordance with the assurances given, it would go ahead with the rail-roko agitation on January 15.
