BSNL to provide more facilities in Sabarimala

Staff Reporter

Broad Band facility in the next one week

PATHANAMTHITTA: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has made arrangements for improving the telecommunication facility in Sabarimala during the annual Mandalam-Makaravilakku festival that begins on November 17.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, BSNL General Manager C. Sasidharan said steps were initiated to ensure carpet coverage to the cellular phone service in and around Sabarimala and at the Nilackal base camp during the pilgrim season.

Mr. Sasidharan said the two Base Trans Stations (BTS), each having a capacity to handle 75,000 calls per day, were erected in Pampa and Sannidhanam. Another BTS would be installed at the Nilackal base camp as soon as the unit there received power supply, he said.

The BTS at Mannarakulanji and Ranni block junction were commissioned and those at Makkappuzha and Ranni Ittiyappara would be made functional during the season so as to extend maximum possible cellular phone coverage along the main trunk road to Sabarimala, he said.

Mr. Sasidharan said BSNL made arrangements for providing telecommunication facility at the KSRTC bus station in Pampa, Nilackal, Thulapaly, Plappally, and Chalakkayam.

Mr. Sasidharan said that a mobile BTS would be installed at Karimala on the traditional path to Sabarimala, besides a mobile public telephone, during the pilgrim season. The Telecom Centres would be opened at Pampa, Sannidhanam and Nilackal and Internet facility would also be made available at the Sannidhanam centre.

Mr. Sasidharan said BSNL would also extend the Broad Band facility to Sabarimala in the next one week. He said a media centre would also be opened at the telecom centre at Sannidhanam.

A temporary foot over-bridge, linking Chandranandan Road and the Telecom Centre at Sannidhanam, would be constructed soon to provide easy pilgrim access to the temple from the Chandranandan Road, he said.
