BANGALORE: Sometimes the tenuous hold on hope for parents trying to save their baby's lives snaps, as 11-month-old Theertha Kumar's father and mother discovered last Saturday.

Theertha Kumar was brought to Bangalore from Mangal village of Magadi taluk, as the parents hoped to meet the Chief Minister at the Janata Darshan, and seek help for his treatment.

Theertha Kumar born at Magadi hospital, was brought to Bangalore for an operation to remove a lump on his back, and was operated at the Indira Gandhi Children's Hospital.

However, the baby developed complications with water accumulating in the body, causing swelling in the head and arms.

The parents have spent thousands of rupees, even selling off their sewing machines, with which they earned their livelihood, to raise the money.

However, on November 11, only disappointment was in store for them.

On arriving at Krishna, the Chief Minister's home office, they were shattered to find that the Janata Darshan had been cancelled.

Their only consolation was that the officials who spoke to them made a note of their woeful tale.
