Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy has said that the Union Territory presently did not produce adequate milk to meet the growing demand and the administration was procuring milk from other States to meet it. He called for a boost in milk production here. Inaugurating the 53rd annual Cooperative Week celebrations here on Tuesday, he said that the administration was catering for the cooperative societies and various projects were being implemented through the societies. Educational institutions were also started through cooperative organisations. He said that the handloom cooperative projects entrusted with the work of making garments needed for various welfare schemes should be got ready on time. The Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies Balasubramanian welcomed those present. Awards and prizes were handed to managements of nine cooperative undertakings on the occasion. The Cooperative Milk Producers Society at Embalam near here bagged the "Best Cooperative Society" Award for the third successive year.
