Floral tributes to Nehru mark Children's Day celebrations

AWARD: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy presents cash awards and citations to children in recognition of their creativity at the Children's Day celebrations in Puducherry on Tuesday.

Puducherry: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy paid floral tributes at the statue of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of the leader's 117th birth anniversary celebrated by the Union Territory Administration here on Tuesday. He also distributed cash and citations to children to mark Children's Day celebrations.

Besides the Chief Minister, AICC General Secretary B.K. Hariprasad MP, PCC president P. Shanmugham, Speaker of Puducherry Assembly R. Radhakrishnan, chairperson of the Puducherry municipal council B. Sridevi, chairman of Oulgaret municipal council N.S.J. Jayapal, a host of legislators and freedom fighters were among those who garlanded the statue of Nehru in Gandhi Thidal near the beach.

Earlier at the PCC office, the Chief Minister, the AICC General Secretary, PCC leader and office bearers of the PCC, councillors of Puducherry and Oulgaret municipality were among those who paid tributes at the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru. Mr. Hariprasad called on Lt. Governor Mukut Mithi at Raj Nivas. He said that it was only a courtesy meeting. He said he knew Mr. Mithi for a long time.

PMC

Volunteers of different wings of the Puducherry Munnetra Congress paid floral tributes at the portrait of Nehru and celebrated the leader's birth anniversary at the party office.

Legislators of the PMC, K. Lakshminarayanan and N. Anandhu and trade union leaders and representatives of different wings of PMC also offered tributes at the portrait of Jawaharlal Nehru.
