CHENNAI: Strengthening the uncovered city-side areas, including the car parking zones, with surveillance cameras, installation of more Closed Circuit TVs and further tightening of security at various access points in the perimeter area of the Chennai airport were discussed at a special security meeting held at the airport on Tuesday. Senior officials of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the State police took part. A. Subramanian, Inspector General of Police (Intelligence), who attended the meeting, said the preliminary meeting discussed several suggestions, which would be placed at a high-level security review meeting to be chaired by the Chief Secretary at the Secretariat on Wednesday. The officials, who made an on-the-spot assessment of entry and exit points of the airport, also took note of the parking of government vehicles in front of the terminal building, though they should not be parked for over 90 seconds and if they did, the vehicles should be towed away to a remote area and penalty levied. Even while the officials were conducting the meeting, an unattended suitcase in the Kamaraj Domestic Terminal passenger concourse area and another corrugated box near the exit area of the domestic airport created a flutter and kept the airport agencies on "tenterhooks" for some time. The two boxes were removed to the cooling pit and found to have some personal effects and packets of chocolates.
