CHENNAI: A World Bank-aided, Rs.2, 500-crore Integrated Agriculture Modernisation Water Agriculture Resource Management Project will soon be finalised by the Tamil Nadu Government, Public Works Department Minister Durai Murugan said on Tuesday. Inaugurating a seminar on "Participatory Irrigation Management" organised by the State Agricultural Engineering Department here on Tuesday, he said the project would benefit farmers. He also underscored the need for sensitising rural masses, especially the farmers, to the advances in agriculture engineering. Farmers in Tamil Nadu need not fear that their grievances would not be heard by the Government since the Chief Minister himself was evincing a keen interest in solving their problems, the Minister said. In a couple of days, the Chief Minister would conduct a detailed review of the various Departments. The meeting would consider all the pending demands. Mr. Durai Murugan also released a souvenir brought out on the occasion. Presiding over the seminar, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam said the welfare of farmers was a priority for the Government and wanted the participating farmers to send the recommendations of the seminar to the Government. M. Naganathan, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Commission, O.S. Sushindiren, Chief Engineer of Agricultural Engineering Department, Surjit K Chaudhary, Agriculture Production Commissioner, S. Rajarathinam, Public Works Department Secretary, G. Santhanam, Director, Agriculture Department and A. Mohanakrishnan, Advisor, Cauvery Tribunal, spoke.
