LONG-PENDING DEMAND: Members of the National Federation of Indian Women collect signatures from the public to urge the Centre to introduce quota for women in legislative bodies in Puducherry on Tuesday.
Puducherry: The councillor of Puducherry municipality S. Rajalakshmi has said that there was good response to the campaign of the National Federation of Indian Women launched here on Tuesday to collect signatures to persuade the Centre to bring in legislation in the forthcoming session of Parliament to earmark 33 per cent quota of reservation for women in Parliament and State legislatures. She said in a release that the drive was launched simultaneously at various centres in and around the town and more than 3,000 persons affixed their signatures extending support to the demand. A delegation of the federation would participate in the all women rally to be held in Delhi shortly. Ms. Rajalakshmi said that among those who felicitated the participants in the drive and functionaries of the federation included chairperson of the Puducherry Municipal council B. Sridevi, CPI legislator R.Viswanathan and secretary of the State Committee of the CPI N. Kalainathan besides a few other delegates of the party.
