KADAPA: Burglars broke into Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy temple at Porumamilla in the early hours of Tuesday and made away with silver ornaments weighing 3 kg and valued at Rs. 50,000. The burglars opened locks of the temple's main door and the sanctum sanctorum and stole silver headgears of Sri Lakshmi Venkateswara Swamy, Sridevi and Bhudevi, `sathagopam', harathi plate and a light stand, police said. The presiding deity's silver `namam' was found on the road.A lorry driver reportedly spotted two persons moving near the temple and alerted people at the RTC bus stand. Two villagers rushed to the temple and called for the watchman but the burglars had fled from the rear end, the police said. After a vain chase, the villagers informed temple committee secretary Janardhana Shreshti, who lodged a complaint with the Porumamilla police.
