ANANTAPUR: As part of the State Government's temporary assistance to surrendered Maoists Superintendent of Police M.S. Ravindra handed over cheques of Rs. 5,000 each to 13 surrendered naxalites on Monday. The SP asked all Maoists to surrender and lead a normal life. He stated that lack of awareness, fancy for guns, family problems, impact of Maoists were the main reasons behind youth joining the extremist outfit. He promised all help to Maoists who were apprehensive of surrendering to the police after losing sympathy and cooperation from the people. No middlemen were required for the purpose and they could surrender before any police officer. About 103 Maoists had given up before the police in the district since 2005.
