Letters to the Editor
The brutal murder of four members of a Dalit family at Kharlanji village in Maharashtra hardly finds a mention in the mainstream media. Slowly, the issue will fade away into oblivion and the culprits will be free to carry on with their routine. Bhaiyyalal Bhotmange, who witnessed the massacre of his family, has nothing more to lose. The least the nation can do is to grant him his wish of seeing the culprits being hanged to death after a free and fair trial.
Bidyarani Asem,
Justice, as a common cause, has no meaning when it forsakes Dalits. In an era of globalisation, this is a shocking reality. There have been several cases of Dalit murders but the state continues to turn a blind eye to them. With untouchability persisting unashamedly in all spheres of life, Dalits live on waiting hopelessly, sometimes in anger, for the long-betrayed dawn of equality. All sections should express their anger against this terrible atrocity and show solidarity with the survivor.
T. Marx,
