Akalis have no agenda: Amarinder

Staff Correspondent

CHANDIGARH: Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Tuesday said that from the "massive response" to the first phase of his "Vikas Yatra", especially in the Malwa heartland, it could safely be inferred that nobody can stop the Congress from forming the next government in the State.

Addressing a well-attended rally in Ludhiana, Capt. Singh said that while the Congress was committed to development of the State, the Akali Dal led by former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had no political agenda except criticising the present Government.

He claimed that the unprecedented crowd was the biggest ever show of strength that had belied the tall claims of the Akalis and other detractors.

Capt. Singh's loyalists stressed that the "success" of the Ludhiana rally and the response to the " Yatra" would contribute in generating an impression that the scion of the royal family of the erstwhile princely state of Patiala was the best bet to lead the Congress in the forthcoming electoral battle.

The All India Congress Committee(AICC) general secretary in-charge of party affairs in the State, Janardhan Dwivedi, said that in keeping with the upbeat mood of the people he was ready to give a certificate to Capt. Singh for unparalleled development in the State.
