Salem, Dindigul begin well

CHENNAI: Salem and Dindigul began well, winning their opening matches in badminton and table tennis on Tuesday in the boys' section of the State-level inter-school competitions being organised by the SDAT under the Government of India scheme of promotion of sports and games.

The three-day programme for under-16 participants is being conducted at the Nehru indoor stadium.

The results: table tennis: boys: Dindigul bt Tiruchi 3-0; Salem bt Kancheepuram 3-0; Erode bt Tiruvannamali 3-0; Vellore bt Tiruvallur 3-1; Cuddalore bt Nagapattinam 3-0; Coimbatore bt Thoothukudi 3-0; Kanhyakumari bt Madurai 3-2.

Girls: Thoothududi bt Tiruvallur 3-0; Tiruchi bt Virudhunagar 3-0; Kancheepuram bt Dindigul 3-1; Tiruvannamalai bt Villupuram 3-0.

Badminton: boys: Salem bt Virudhunagar 2-0; Tirunelveli bt Coimbatore 2-0; Dindigul bt Thoothukudi 2-1.

Girls: Vellore bt Sivaganga 2-0; Thoothukudi bt Tiruvannamalai 2-0.
