Districts 68 for three

CHENNAI: Combined Districts finished on 68 for three at the end of first day of its three-day match against City for the C.P. Ramaswamy Iyer Shield at M.A. Chidambaram stadium.

Only 36 overs could be bowled after early morning rain left the wicket wet and the run-up soggy; play consequently began at 2.40 in the afternoon and was halted after bad light intervened just after 5.30 p.m.

City won the toss and elected to field. Number three R. Srinivasan made 22, while captain R. Sathish was unbeaten on 19 at close of play.

Earlier, V. Devendran began with a flourish and hit a six before he was declared caught behind off the next ball.

Tight bowling from R. Naresh (two for 20) kept Districts under pressure.

The wet outfield further hampered Districts' efforts to break the shackles imposed by the attacking field placements.

The scores:

Combined Districts 68 for three v City at MAC.
