Superb spell by Shanmugam

Coimbatore: A terrific bowling spell by medium-pacer Shanmugam (five for six) saw Sri Ramakrishna MHSS score a ten-wicket win over Vasavi Vidyalaya MHSS in the quarterfinals of the CDCA under-17 inter-schools cricket tournament for the T.S.S & Co Trophy at the Forest College grounds here on Tuesday.

Suresh shines

At the TNAU grounds, defending champion Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MHSS, thanks to S. Suresh (52 not out & three for 12), scored a 157-run win over Immaculate MHSS.

The scores:

Vasavi Vidyalaya MHSS 26 in 10.2 overs (Shanmugam five for 6) lost to Sri Ramakrishna MHSS 27 for no loss in 5.2 overs.

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi MHSS 199 for two in 25 overs (S. Suresh 52 not out, P. Subanth 46, K. Mohan Raj 42 not out) bt Immaculate MHSS 42 in 11 overs (S. Suresh three for 12).

RKS Kalvi Nilayam 103 for seven in 25 overs bt Suburban HSS 75 in 21 overs.

GRG MHSS 85 for seven in 20 overs lost to Mani's HSS 89 for two in 18 overs (Sri Vardhan 42 not out).

Laidlaw MS wins

Laidlaw Memorial School defeated Lawrence School by two wickets and emerged champion in the NDCA under-15 inter-schools cricket tournament for the Selma Gowder Memorial Rolling Trophy at the Laidlaw grounds in Udhagamandalam on Tuesday.

The scores:

Lawrence 131 for nine in 40 overs (K. Gaurav Ganapathy four for 21) lost to Laidlaw MS 132 for eight in 37 overs.

Coimbatore girls win

Coimbatore got the better of Erode 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 to lift the girls' title in the sub-junior (under-16) inter-district volleyball championship at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium courts in Salem on Tuesday.

Earlier, Kancheepuram outplayed Chennai 25-14, 25-9 for the third spot.

The results:

Girls: final: Coimbatore bt Erode 25-17, 25-10, 25-17.

Third place: Kancheepuram bt Chennai 25-14, 25-9.

Boys: Third place: Thiruvarur bt Virudhunagar 23-25, 25-16, 25-16.
