MLC moves Supreme Court

BELLARY: Janardhan Reddy, MLC, has filed a civil writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking registration and investigation of the Rs. 150-crore bribery charge against Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Home Minister M.P. Prakash and Minister for Forests C. Chennigappa. Mr. Reddy told presspersons that the writ petition filed on November 10 (diary number of the case is 29187 of 2006) would come up for admission in the third week of this month. — Staff Reporter

Mounting debts force farmer to end life

Bidar: Unable to repay debts, a farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide in his house in Nagur (K) village in Bhalki taluk on Monday. Madappa Siddappa Rakshe, 43, is survived by his his wife, three daughters and a son. He owns around three acres of farmland. He wanted to plant a banana orchard. He obtained a loan of Rs. 1.5 lakh from the Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society in the village. He had reportedly taken loans from two other banks and also from moneylenders. He received a recovery notice from one of the banks on Monday and decided to take the extreme step, the family members told presspersons. A case has been registered at the Dhannura police station.

Foundation day celebrated

Bangalore: Nehru Yuvak Kendra celebrated its foundation day here on Tuesday. The organisation works extensively among young people in rural areas and small towns to bring them on par with their counterparts in the cities with regard to education and extracurricular activities. On this occasion awards were presented to Namitha of Vijayanagar Youth Club and S. Nagaraju of Chandapura Yuva Sangha, Anekal taluk. The best district club award went to Chinmaya Seva Samasthe, Chandapura. — Special Correspondent

Narco analysis done

BANGALORE: The Forensic Science Laboratory personnel on Tuesday completed doing polygraph, brain mapping and narco analysis tests on one of the two Pakistani nationals allegedly associated with Al-Badr terrorist group. The tests on the other accused, which were incomplete, will be done at a later date. According to the Mysore Police Commissioner, Praveen Sood, Mohameed Ali Hussain underwent the polygraph and brain mapping on Tuesday. He underwent narco analysis test on Monday. Mohammed Fahad, who had undergone polygraph and brain mapping tests, went through narco analysis test in Bowring and Lady Curzon Hospital on Tuesday. — Staff Reporter

Siddaramaiah upbeat

TUMKUR: The former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, has said he was confident of winning the Chamundeshwari Assembly seat by a big margin. He said: "I am 100 per cent sure of victory by a very big margin. People of the Chamundeswari Assembly Constituency will never miss to recognise the good work I have done."
