Bangalore: Chilambarasan of Doddakallasandra in Bangalore was pushed into a well by his uncle with the intention to kill. But the brave boy hung on to a pipe and stayed awake all night. He managed to draw the attention of a passer-by in the morning and was rescued. Shreyas of Hubli was not as lucky. The Standard IX student was on a holiday with the family when the tsunami hit. The boy managed to save his mother from the killer waves but himself drowned. These were among the six who were conferred the Bravery Award by Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy at Bal Bhavan in Bangalore on Tuesday to mark Children's Day. Father of Shreyas received the award on behalf of his son. Speaking after giving away the awards, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the stories of bravery he had heard assured him that the future was in safe hands. The Chief Minister later announced Rs. 1 crore for improving Bal Bhavan. The Government was planning a scheme to help street children in the State, he said.
