Centralised admission process upheld

`The procedure is in tune with the Supreme Court judgment'

HYDERABAD: The action of the State Government providing for centralised admission process for engineering, management and MCA courses has been upheld by a Division Bench of the High Court while dismissing writ petitions filed by Dar-Us-Salam Educational Trust and others challenging G.O. 54.

The G.O. provides for centralised admission process by the concerned committees formed by the Government.

The Dar-Us-Salam Educational Trust, which runs engineering colleges, had complained that the Government does not have the authority.

Various other unaided institutions also filed separate writ petitions.

The Government contended that the intake of number of students pertaining to the minority community is not being reduced.

The court was informed that this process of centralised admission procedure has been done keeping in view the Supreme Court judgment to see that students need not have to appear for separate counselling in many colleges.

The Bench rejected the contention of the petitioners and upheld G.O. Ms No. 54 making it clear that the centralised admission procedure is in tune with the Supreme Court judgment and does not affect the minority status of the institutions.
