AMMAN: National champion Manan Chandra has made it to the semifinals in the men's event of the IBSF world snooker championship on Tuesday. In the quarterfinals he beat Craig Steadman of England 6-3 (71-26, 44-68, 44-51, 75-23, 46-15, 62-38, 0-66, 86-0, 73-0) and will now face another Englishman, Daniel Ward. In the women's section, Anuja Thakur's plucky show ended in the semifinals when she lost to Wan-Ip In of China-Hongkong 2-4 after being up by two frames. Wan won 36-68, 6-46, 46-11, 71-55, 69-35, 62-58. PTI reports from New Delhi Earlier, Manan made his maiden entry into the quarterfinals while his more fancied compatriot Pankaj Advani bowed out. Chandra got the better of Andrew Pagett of Wales 5-3 to move into the last eight stage. The Indian got a superb start in the first frame and went on to win the tie 75-0, 46-23, 4-63, 29-74, 91-0, 67-12, 34-76, 79-11. Advani, a former champion, lost 3-5 to Daniel Ward of England in the pre-quarterfinals. Anuja defeated Kathy Parashis of Australia 4-1 (37-68, 57-33, 74-30, 58-7, 65-42) to enter the semifinals. In the Masters section, Devender Joshi reached the semifinals by thrashing Danny Moermans of Belgium 4-1 while compatriot Geet Sethi was crushed by Pakistan's Mohammad Yusuf 0-4 in another match.
