NEW DELHI: Railways has made some sweeping changes from the team that slipped from the champion status to be relegated to the Plate level of the Ranji Trophy. Sanjay Bangar continues to lead the team that had a nightmarish season after having begun it as the defending champion. The team, announced here on Tuesday, does not include veteran Yere Goud, left-arm spinner Madan Yadav and wicket-keeper Sudhhir Wankhede, all key players in the Railways campaign for some seasons now. Goud, according to the selection committee chairman Kamlesh Gupta, was not being considered on two accounts. He has not recovered from the fracture to his finger and he also needs to devote personal attention to his ailing daughter in Bangalore. Interestingly, the Railways would not object to Goud's desire to represent Karnataka this season. "As far as we are concerned, he is free to play wherever he wants," said Mr. Gupta. The team includes some new faces wicketkeepers Ankit Srivastava and P. Vivek, promising off-spinner Ritam Kundu, all-rounder Sanjeev Samyal and left-hand batsman Sushant Manjrekar. The team: Sanjay Bangar (Captain), Murali Kartik, J.P. Yadav, Harinder Singh, T.P. Singh, Amit Pagnis, Shreyas Khanolkar, Raja Ali, K. Parida, Santosh Saxena, Ankit Srivastava, P. Vivek, Ritam Kundu, Sanjeev Samyal and Sushant Manjrekar. Coach: Vinod Sharma. Assistant coach: Abhay Sharma.
Vikas shines
An unbeaten 70 by Vikas helped Business Standard to a seven-wicket victory over National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) and won a place in the quarterfinals of the 10th Dattu Phadkar cricket tournament at the Teri Oval here. The scores: NTPC 159 in 24 overs (Dharamvir 59, Jyoti 47) lost to Business Standard 160 for three in 24 overs (Vikas 70 not out).
