New Delhi: The Supreme Court collegium of judges, headed by Chief Justice Y.K. Sabharwal, has reiterated its recommendation to elevate the acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court Vijender Jain as the Chief Justice of the Punjab and Harynana High Court. With the collegium sticking to its earlier decision and the Centre approving the proposal, the file on Mr.Justice Jain's elevation has been sent to President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, say authoritative sources in the Government. According to the sources, there was no unanimity within the collegium on his elevation. Thereafter, the views of two apex court judges, who were earlier Chief Justices of the Delhi High Court, were sought on the proposal to shift Justice Jain. Subsequently, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was understood to have raised certain queries and the file was sent to the President. He, in turn, sought more details from the Government. Accordingly, the Union Law Ministry again forwarded the proposal to the collegium for consideration afresh. As the collegium stuck to its earlier decision, the Government had no alternative to accepting the recommendation and forwarding it to Mr. Kalam for signing the warrant of appointment. All details sought by the President were sent to him and the appointment is expected shortly, says the sources.
