B.Ed. allotment

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The final allotment for self-financing B.Ed. colleges will be held at Government Women's College, Thiruvananthapuram at 9 a.m. on November 16. Allotment will be made for seats lying vacant after the allotment on October 21. Any student who has submitted an option and who reports in person will be given allotment on the basis of his/her rank. After this, if there are any vacancies students who have not given any option but report in person will be considered for allotment. Students in the SC / ST category who wish to be considered for admission to SC/ST seats in aided colleges too can take part in this allotment, a press note here on Tuesday said. - Staff Reporter

Inquiry ordered

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has ordered a police inquiry into groups duping people through advertisements promising loans. The Minister asked the Director General of Police to inquire about their reported activities.

Assistant Surgeon convicted

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode Vigilance Special Judge and Inquiry Commissioner on Tuesday awarded an Assistant Surgeon of the Kanhangad Government Hospital to two years rigorous imprisonment and a penalty of Rs.10,000 on charges of accepting bribe from a female patient for conducting an operation eight years ago. Special Judge M.P. Bhadran found Assistant Surgeon H. Prakash Pai guilty under Section 7 and 13 of the Prevention of Corruption Act. — Staff Reporter

Bail granted

Kochi: Justice V. Ramkumar of the Kerala High on Tuesday granted bail to Rajiv alias Sarma, an accused arrested in connection with the sending of letter bombs to various persons in Thiruvananthapuram. The Judge ordered that the accused be released on bail on his executing a bond for Rs.15,000 with two solvent sureties to the like sum to the satisfaction of the investigation officers.

The other condition was that he should appear before the investigation officer on Wednesday and Saturday and should not influence the witnesses. - Staff Reporter
