Showcasing high-quality plays, dances

Pulling out all stops to give this calendar festival a different orbit and visibility, the National Institute of Performing Arts (NIPA) is showcasing some high-quality plays at its 10th International Children's Theatre Festival in the Capital.

The six-day festival that opened here on Tuesday is being held at three venues -- LTG Auditorium, Dilli Haat and Poorva Sanskritik Kendra. Celebrities from all walks of life like films, theatre and other mass media who have contributed to the performing arts have been roped in for the festival.

After the opening ceremony, Shri Adi Shakti Art staged a Hindi play, "Kyo Kabira Roya", at LTG Auditorium on Tuesday.

On the occasion, a group from Norway staged a play, "The Bird of Happiness", and Shree Kala Sanskar staged a Marathi play.

Besides a play, "Recyclage", staged by a Belgium group, a Hindi play, "Ujabak Raja Aur Dacket", was also presented at Dilli Haat on Tuesday.

Ballet by Russian group

Ballet dances conducted by the ballet school of the Russian Centre of Science and Culture and folk dances will be presented at LTG Auditorium on Wednesday. The same day, a Norwegian group will stage a play, "The Bird of Happiness", at Dilli Haat.

Hindi play "Julius Caesar" will be staged by Doon Ghati Rang Manch, while Cap Theatre from Bangladesh will stage "Rheetu Samagam" at LTG Auditorium on Thursday. Also on the cards are folk dances from Orissa.

Tulips International School of Delhi will stage a Hindi play, "Maheeshashur Mardini", while the National Youth Theatre (Antigua) will stage an English play, "The Awakening", at LTG Auditorium on Friday. Dance lovers will be enthralled by folk dances from Tripura. The same day, Noisy Friarbirds from Australia will stage a play at Poorva Sanskritik Kendra.

Ahlcon International Public School will stage a Hindi play, "Abhishar", at LTG Auditorium on Saturday. There will be plays in Tamil and Bengali, besides folk dances. On Sunday, Sarvodaya School (Tilak Marg) will stage "Beti Ko Do Pyar" and Nishtha Sanskritik Manch of Haryana will stage a Hindi play, "Ujabak Raja Aur Dacket", at LTG Auditorium. Besides a Portuguese play by a Brazilian group, folk dances will also be performed. -- Madhur Tankha
