BELGAUM: Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa has said that effective measures taken by the Janata Dal (S)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition have helped the Government add Rs. 2,000 crore to the State exchequer. He was addressing an all-religion meet at M. Chandargi in Ramdurg taluk, about 100 km from here, on Monday. Mr. Yediyurappa, who holds the Finance portfolio, said the State Government was losing Rs. 350 crore a month before the present government came to power. The Centre had acknowledged and appreciated the State Government's measures in this regard. He said the Government had taken steps to create employment opportunities by training unemployed rural youth in various skills with the cooperation of various industries. So far, one lakh applications had been received for training in various industries across the State. The Government planned to disburse Rs. 3,500 crore as crop loans at four per cent interest to farmers, weavers and women's self-help groups, he said. The Government had accorded top priority to minor irrigation schemes. It had allocated Rs. 900 crore to complete all the 32 irrigation schemes in Krishna basin quickly. A sum of Rs. 700 crore would be spent on recharging the water-table in different parts of the State. He said that the Government was committed to holding a legislature session every year in Belgaum. Over Rs. 250 crore would be spent to construct a Vikasa Soudha for the purpose, he said. Seers of Rambhapuri Math and Ujjain Math; Suresh Angadi, MP; Bheemappa S. Arikar, Suresh Marihal, Jagdish Metgud and Mahadevappa Yadwad, MLAs; and JD(S) district president Ashok Pujari spoke.
