Children's Day celebrated

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Tuesday organised various programmes on "Bal Diwas" to celebrate the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru.

More than 5,000 students of municipal schools presented a variety of programmes including physical drill, cultural show and folk dances before Lieutenant Governor B. L. Joshi and other dignitaries at Ambedkar Stadium.

Traders protest at Pragati Maidan

NEW DELHI: Delhi Vyapaari Aandolan on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the India International Trade Fair here on Tuesday in protest against the Government's "step-motherly" attitude towards traders.

Former Union Minister Vijay Goel said on the one hand the Congress Government was destroying the trade in Delhi, while on the other it was organising the IITF. "Where will the traders conduct their business when no place has been left for them in Delhi?" he asked. A number of traders wore T-shirts bearing the slogan, "No Trade, Why Fair?"

School building inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Congress president Ram Babu Sharma on Tuesday dedicated a newly constructed building of the Municipal Primary School at Old Marginal Bandh in Seelampur to the residents of the Capital's trans-Yamuna areas.

The three-storey building has been constructed by the MCD in 18 months at a cost of over Rs.1 crore. It has 25 classrooms, one multi-purpose hall, two office rooms and two storerooms.

"Acidity can cause cancer"

NEW DELHI: Persistent acidity can cause cancer, said K.K. Aggarwal, president of the Heart Care Foundation of India, at a seminar at Pragati Maidan here on Tuesday.

Stating that a faulty lifestyle not only caused acidity but also damaged the liver, Dr. Aggarwal said: "Acidity for the first time in life should not be ignored. Reflux acidity usually occurs between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Early morning acidity should raise a suspicion of heart attack or angina."

New chief for trust

NEW DELHI: Vijay Mohan Kaul was nominated the new Chairman of the AIKS Trust by the retiring Chairman, Dwarka Nath Munshi, at a joint meeting of the board of trustees and governing council of the Trust here this past week.

Mr. Kaul said he would spare no efforts to carry on the traditions, programmes and practices of the institution.
