VIJAYAWADA: Water continues to pour into the drains of Krishna district a fortnight after Ogni caused a deluge submerging huge areas along their margins. Gunderu, Lajjabanda, Inampudi, Jeelagalagandi and Pulagalagandi drains are still flowing at flood levels on Tuesday. Executive engineer T. Sivaji said that the in-fall (the point where the surface stream enters the drain) points were still submerged and the water was flowing above flood levels in the drains. The only improvement was that water was not flowing over the Machilipatnam-Challapalli Road anymore. The day the Central team, constituted to assess the damage caused by Ogni, visited the badly affected areas, water was following over the road at four points. Inampudi, Jeelagalagandi, Pulagalagandi and Gunderu drains were all flowing over the NH, 10 days after the cyclone wreaked havoc in the district.
Tidal impact
It would take another three to four days for the level of water in the drains to decrease, Mr. Sivaji said. Water was flowing out slowly because the area was almost at sea level and the tidal action also had an impact.
