HASSAN: Canara Bank on Tuesday launched `S.B. Can Champ', a savings bank account for children as part of Children's Day celebration. It was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner K.H. Ashwathanarayana Gouda. According to Mr. Nagendra, manager, Regional Office Canara Bank, the scheme was for children below 12 years studying in primary schools and if the students operate the account according to norms they are entitled for student loans after completion of pre- university. Mr. Nagendra said the account could be opened with a minimum balance of Rs.100 by a parent or guardian. There should be at least two credits every half year and no withdrawal in the account till the child completes pre-university and applies for an education loan. The programme was held in Kannada Sahitya Parishat meeting hall.
